Thankyou to the people who keep in touch and have contacted me,it still means a great deal when people want to connect on the topic of family disownment . One of the things that Im learning over time is that many still feel the shame of the situation,we have to address this with life itself..that we have as much right to live and are worthy of everything that any human being would have.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people can relate to this topic, either short periods of estrangment from families to a lifetime. There is a very wide line on honour based crimes, disownment is on that line, never forget this.
Please remember when people tell you that it does not matter about your past family ,that we have to understand that that is a very difficult thing to achieve, that our early development and early attachments continue to have significant impact on our futre lives.
I hope the future will be of therapeutic services to not only enable survivors to talk but understand how the impact can affect their lives and what strategies they can look at to get on with their lives.
To those looking in who are not disowned ,you are important in spreading the much needed message of ‘please listen’ to those with honour based stories, really listen withoput giving your advice…this is the biggest problem I think we face with this subject…if we cant listen we will never understand and not be able to make the change in our communities.
